He has a maverick streak, exemplified by work like his 2006 video for Muse's Knights of Cydonia - a brilliant sci-fi spaghetti western inspired by the British band's deranged pomp-rock: Chemical Brothers' Get Yourself High featuring manipulated kung-fu footage: and a simultaneous triple-storyline video that earns the term Gondry-esque for Blink 182's Always.
And his output has been phenomenal- not only in promos, but in commercials too - ads for the likes of Acura, Bacardi, BMW, Hewlett Packard, Vodafone, Budweiser, Renault, Mazda, Coors Light, NASCAR, Saab, Ford and PlayStation. These past 12 months he's divided his time between making spots for HP, Mentos, Oasis - the Rubber Duckzilla spots out of Mother London – Travelers Insurance and more, plus videos for Britney's Womaniser, Eminem's We Made You (both winners at the MTV VMAs in September), Lady Gaga, Katy Perry's Waking Up in Vegas, Kelly Clarkson and others.

When shots catches up with the HSI-signed Kahn in Toronto, where he's about to shoot a Bell Telephone ad, having just shot his third spot of the highly regarded HP campaign, this fast•talking, opinionated Texan of Korean/US extraction is justifiably full of confidence. While other promo directors about to turn 37 might consider aiming their energies elsewhere, Kahn's continued enthusiasm is palpable and the visual invention, and sheer entertainment value of his big pop-star videos just seems to improve, year-on-year.
Offered congratulations on the recent MTV Video Music Awards wins for the Britney and Eminem videos he is cheerfully dismissive. "That's all bullshit of course.
