| Music videos are one of two things. They're either simple performance showcases or attempts at making cinematic art. Hiphop's overrated, overly sexed up four minute montages known for their booty shaking bimbos, have not only made urban legends of directors, but, in some cases, outcasts of the artistic class. And, as with any art form, there are always those shining stars that bubble up to become the exception to the rule. Joseph Kahn is one of those exceptions. As the new millennium approached, Kahn was one of a brigade of music video directors who were entrusted with bigger production budgets and the artistic freedom to push the format forward.
