Joseph Kahn's career began when he convinced local hip-hop groups in his hometown of Houston to let him direct their music videos. After 13 years in the music business, he's worked with just about every artist on the Billboard chart, including Eminem, U2 and Christina Aguilera. Now, after having taken on the new challenge of a major motion picture, the 31-year-old talks about his experience on his first film and his "pathetic" life as a director.
Have you always wanted to cross over to feature films?
My plan has always been to be a feature filmmaker. I grew up in Texas, and there was no way to break through the film industry there. When you're starting off as a filmmaker, everyone's equal in their pathetic-ness. Everyone's pathetic. Everyone is a dreamer who doesn't have a job that doesn't have any connections. |
