That's agood hobby of yours.
It's extraordinarily hard to maintain relationships. You got divorced this year. You can totally understand how Scorsese has had five wives. You totally get it. You were married for one year exactly and it really came down to the marriage or the work. The work. When you first started working on videos, all you wanted to do was make a movie.
Now you're making a movie and all you want to do is get back to videos. Movie people are different They're not as hip as video people. Everybody comes from Harvard. Every decision has a dollar sign attached. The entire process runs on fear.
It's like studios want you to gamble, but only up to a point. Nobody realises how experienced you are. A three-and-a-half minute video, at $2 or $3 or $4 million, costs as much on a minute-for-minute basis as a $50 million movie. Or at least as much as a beautiful house in the Hollywood hills. |

You still have things left to prove in the video world.
You'd like to make a video with Madonna. If it weren't for music videos or for film-making in general, you would be, in your own humble estimation, "the biggest loser in the world".
Straight up, like 100 per cent. You would be shy. You would have no friends. Yob have this sweaty hand problem. You're not that great an artist. You're not great with people skills. You're not an athlete. You're not good-looking. You're nothing without film-making.
But because of it, a guy who should be the Invisible Man gets totravel the world with amazing people and see these incredible things. Most days, you can't believe how lucky your life is.
YOU KNEW A FEW THINGS EARLY ON. GROWING UP IN HOUSTON, TEXAS, you knew you would become a doctor. You knew you would never be a millionaire. You knewyou would never be artistic. You knew you would never be popular. |
